|McLean, VA, August 1, 2017 – The Section on Women’s Health (SoWH), an affiliated and independent arm of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), has appointed Lora ‘Lori’ Ann Mize, PT, DPT, WCS, to the Vice President to serve from February 2018-2019.
Lori has been actively dedicating her time and efforts to Section on Women’s Health since 2010 primarily in the Section’s education component as a course lab assistant, instructor, committee member, committee assistant chair, and Director of Education. In her role as Director of Education, Lori has been a key player in the expansion of the education initiatives of the Section and the domestic and international growth of the Section’s course offerings. Lori will conclude her Director of Education term when she will take oath of office at the SOWH General Business Meeting in New Orleans, LA in February 2018.
“The SOWH is growing and changing, expanding our identity, which is advancing our collective specialty. I would love the opportunity to continue to lead the SOWH with passion, strength and excitement for it’s current growth and expansion of membership benefits, global involvement, education, practice, and research,” says Lori.
Lori is currently an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Lynchburg College in Virginia, United States, primarily instructing: Pelvic Health, Administration in Physical Therapy, Student Professional Involvement, Professional Practice, and Comprehensive Review. She manages a pro bono clinical practice in the area of women’s health/pelvic health through a grant funded at Lynchburg College. Lori has recently returned from a successful SOWH trip to Tokyo, Japan, where she and a team of SOWH instructors taught 40 Japanese physiotherapists about pelvic health, pregnancy, and postpartum physical therapy.
The Section on Women’s Health Board of Directors is pleased that Lori has accepted this appointment and know she will represent the Section well and will contribute much to our community and our mission.
The Section on Women’s Health, one of 25 professional and trade organizations managed by the Washington, D.C. and Brussels-based Interel + AMG, promotes and expands physical therapy’s role in the field of women’s and men’s health and wellness across the lifespan. It allows physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students sharing a common interest in the problems and concerns of women, men, and children to meet, confer, and promote these interests. Among other services, the Section develops educational resources, and practice and education standards for addressing health issues.
