The Anatomy and Physiology of Intra-abdominal Pressure CD-Rom

Ross McClung, PhD and Ann Dunbar PT, MS
A growing body of research continues to elucidate the role of intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) in trunk stabilization. Where IAP may lead to secondary medical problems (e.g. obesity causing secondary IAP contributing to gastroesophageal reflux disease, urinary incontinence, and increased pleural pressure), it also has a role in stabilizing the trunk and reducing spinal loading. The CD begins with a live dissection review of the anatomical structures that contribute to IAP and is followed by a lecture discussing the relationship of IAP to other physiological processes and health states such as respiration, obesity, and pregnancy. The scientific basis for spine stabilization will be reviewed. Clinical application enhancing the function of core stabilizers will be briefly presented. Contact Hours: 1.5
