Integrated Approach to Examination and Intervention
Of Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP)
February 14, 2007
This course will instruct the physical therapist in a complete
understanding of the assessment and intervention of pelvic organ
prolapse (POP). We will begin with a case study approach
to a patient/client with POP. A medical evaluation with urodynamics,
options for surgery (including reconstruction and interstim),
and pharmacological management will be covered. A
lab portion will give participants an opportunity to learn how
to do a Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantitative (POP Q) exam.
This will be followed by a discussion of motor control strategies
of the lumbopelvic region that can contribute to POP and
the reoccurrence of POP after surgical reconstruction. Physical
therapy assessment and intervention will follow.
