CAPP Pre-Reading Information

Pre-reading will be updated yearly.  Articles are chosen based on the criteria below.  Links to the individual articles are provided for your convenience. Some articles are available to members only.  A link will be provided to purchase the article on line or you may go to your local medical library and copy it. The SOWH office can not provide pre reading articles.

Purpose of required / mandatory pre-reading / self study

  • To give basic information so that the participant is prepared for an intensive learning experience, especially Level 1.
  • To add increased depth to a topic.
  • To decrease time needed to cover a topic, leaving more time for hands on labs.
  • To expose the participant to evidence based practice in pelvic PT. When available, optional study guides can assist you in integrating and learning the pre-reading material.

Purpose of recommended pre-reading

  • To provide opportunities for participants to learn more about a topic discussed in the course.
  • To highlight existing literature in pelvic PT.
  • To encourage review of highly recommended literature.

Please review pelvic floor muscle and female genital anatomy prior to the course.  Specifically review the anatomy of the levator ani, the superficial genital muscles, and external genitalia, and the nervous supply to the pelvis.
