It’s May, and you’ve finally recovered from Combined Sections Meeting. However, you still have an important job—privilege, actually–to act upon as a member of the Section on Women’s Health. May is election month!
You should have received at least one email, heard about it through our social media and seen the call for action on the www.womenshealthapta.org website. Please get those fingers clicking and vote here! Deadline is May 31 at midnight Eastern Standard Time.
Each year, a revolving cycle of positions on the SOWH Board of Directors and Nominating Committee becomes available to new volunteer leaders. This year’s slate includes the important roles of Section president, treasurer, director of education, director of research and Nominating Committee member.
Not sure how it works? Visit my 2016 blog post[link] on the nominating and slating process.
As past chair of the Nominating Committee, I cannot stress enough the importance of voting. The carefully vetted physical therapists on the slate are leaders who would represent our organization in the coming years. They are here to advance our mission and grow the Section—your Section. Each has different types of experience, backgrounds and characteristics that make them unique. All are highly qualified, which is why they made it onto the slate. Our candidates have put time and effort into their personal statements and ask that you read them to make informed choices.
One benefit of membership is that you qualify to vote for your leaders. Don’t let others speak for you on such an important decision! Sadly, voter turnout in the past has been historically low, especially by newer members. We are determined to turn that around with your help.
The best way to ensure our Section truly represents its members is to have as many of them vote as possible for their leaders. If you believe in inclusion and appropriate representation within the physical therapy community, then please take just a few minutes to act on that by participating in the election process.
We have made the process as easy as possible by moving it online several years ago. Here is the link. Just click it, read the candidate statements, enter your choices and submit your ballot.
Voting is the simplest way to become more involved in your physical therapy profession and Section. Make sure your voice is heard as our elected leaders move us beyond this 40th anniversary year and into an exciting future. Don’t wait–vote now!
